Playa Zancudo, Discover the Privacy !

Playa Zancudo is one of Costa Ricas most isolated, laid-back, no-shirt, and private beach escapes. The main playa begins at the northern end of the Peninsula and stretches five (5) miles southerly to a bend in the coastline. However, for the adventurous the beach continues uninterrupted for another eight (8) miles or so to Playa Pavones area, which is a hangout for world class surfers looking for the perfect wave.

The Playa Zancudo peninsula is bounded on the east by a natural mangrove estuary lining both sides on the Rio Coto and on the west by Golfo Dolce - the sweet Gulf - and the Pacific Ocean. Costa Ricas famous Corcovado National Park, the Osa Peninsula, lies on the western side of Golfo Dolce and is visible from the playa at Latitude 8 Lodge. Day trips can be arranged to the Osa for the adventure seekers.

Wildlife abounds on Playa Zancudo and seeing a sloth, parrots, three different species of monkeys, crocs and gators, anteaters, or a variety of other wildlife is not uncommon. Numerous other species never seen by most Europeans or North Americans are present, but can only been seen after dark.

Sport fishing in Golfo Dolce and the offshore waters near Playa Zancudo is world class. Dozens of world records have been caught while fishing with a few of the local fishing operations. Surfing along the middle sections of Playa Zancudo, near Latitude 8 Lodge, is great for the intermediate to advanced surfer and the surf builds as you approach Playa Pavones.

Local bars and restaurants serve as a focal point for vacationers as well as local residents. Cabinas Oceano, Coloso Del Mar, and Sol y Mar are the most popular for tourists and the local Gringo crowd. All three serve very good food, as do a number of other local restaurants, so try them all before ending your vacation.

Local transportation includes bikes, golf carts, motorcycles and one taxi, so consider the option of renting a car through us and driving over.
